I think kids nowadays are quite poor thing.
Imagine a Primary 5 kid was given a cloze passage regarding dinosaurs, museums, curators and what a curator does. A sentence in the passage says “ We have been conceiving the theropods _____ dinosaurs having a long beak…blah blah..” and the sentence went on for another 2 lines. Such a long complicated sentence to understand! I had to read it 3-4 times to fully understand before I could choose an appropriate word to fill in the blank. Theropods is a kind of dinosaur by the way. There were a few vocab which I haven’t seen in my whole life, not to say the kid. That passage was a headache for me, but the kid seemed immune. No complaints from him whatsoever! Wakaranai. Think I was complaining to him more. So sad. He’s already void of all emotions….默默地承受一切。。。he’s a 沉默的羔羊。
Their science syllabus is even worse. They’re learning the solar system and cells. Like a parent cell will split up to produce 2 daughter cells. Kaoz. I didn’t even know that. And a plant cell has a cell membrane, chloroplasts, nucleus, cytoplasm and cell wall. ???!! don’t think I learnt that when I was P5. They’re definitely victims of info, vocab, concept overload.
I was explaining to them a certain cheem cheem concept and I accidentally said the word “wah lau, if this this this happens, then wont that that happen?” impatience setting in as you can see. He was dam amused by wahlau and kept repeating wahlau in my face. Urgh! Fine…just a slip of my tongue lor. Through out the lesson, he couldn’t forget wahlau and kept giggling like in the middle of doing a maths problem sum.. I hope he doesn’t go and 打小報告 to his mum though. Hah..
Anyways, was talking to my lehlio buddy junyi san that day and he taught me a rhyme to help kids remember where to put the symbol on top of hanyu pinyin. It’s pretty cool!hehe…here’s how it goes:
有 “a” 不放過 ( “a” pronounced as “ah”)
無”a” 找 “o” “e” ( “o”/ “e” pronounced as “or1” “er1”)
“I” “U” 並列排 (“I” / “U” pronounce as “yi1” “wu1”)
單字不用說
and again, he found it very funny.
Going jogging now, there was a sudden downpour just now. the wind was so strong till I couldn’t close my window and my pot of plant outside toppled over, pot broken. It’s still lying crippled at my corridor…
