How the craving of Da Ji Bao come about.

On this detox diet thingy intro by my colleague.. I shall just tahan these 2 weeks. Only 2 weeks… now I know how good real food taste… I’ve got a craving for the big chicken bao.. since Monday when I started the diet.

The craving wasn’t so bad on Monday coz I just back from genting where I really ate quite a bit. But on Tuesday, I found myself automatically heading towards the xiang xiang bao dian shop near lau pa sat. My stomach juices sent a signal (a very strong one) to my brain, instructing my legs to go that direction. Luckily I could control and decided to persevere. And. We’re talking about only the 2nd day..! I already have to use the psychoing myself tactic to boost my perseverance.. ganbatte.

Anyway, not about to elaborate on the ordeal I went through and all the yucky (aka. non-appetising + not very palatable+ oishi kunai+ uma kunai) tabemono I ate. Yesterday was my 3rd day and I already po4 jie4 by eating a dimsum lunch... my colleague say by right, I should start the whole diet all over again from day 01. But, watashi wa itsumo by left e ikimasu. Translate: I always go by the left.

Today is the fateful 4th day. 10 more days to go. Aahhhh.
Today’s lunch is veg salad. Bought a pack from carrefour with thousand island included. By right, I should dump the sauce straight into the bin. But! By left, I’m so going to finish the whole pack of sauce, which isn’t a lot really. Now you can really see where my detox is heading. .. Into the drain! Hahah.

Been trying to finish my DVC (stands for Da Vinci Code)… saw they used this shortform in some print ads and on tv. Not very good leh. DVC sounds too much like JVC.. or stands for a new gadget or something. But this gadget is really quite interesting embedded with lots of hidden codes and mysteries to unravel. Fast-paced and religiously controversial.

The most amazing part is I’m close to finishing the book!! Think the last storybook I’ve read was maybe Matilda or Enid Blyton “The Magic Brush”. To push it abit further, can include my sec sch literature books and also “Hong2 Lou2 Meng4” from my JC days. Hah. ok la.. now the list seems quite long. Heh.

My most recent movie was Firewall starring Harrison Ford. It was quite exciting though I would say the storyline was quite typical. Harrison Ford could have been better by combing his hair properly. His hair was perpetually in a horrible mess.. maybe he was trying to create the “out of bed” messy look. Hmm. No la.. not at the age of 50 plus 60. Da me!!

Somemore in the movie, he was playing a very heroic father and husband trying to crack his brains and limbs to save his family from some really fierce bank robbers who had held his family hostage. Under the stress of his family being held hostage and the integrity required of him from his job, he’s a torn and also a man with incredulous strength and endurance.

I want to eat Da Ji Bao!

Genting Adventure : 21/04/06 - 23/04/06

Weekend was one which I had been looking forward to. Had been counting down ever since 1 month ago, wondering when I can get to take a short break. And now………. I guess it’s over…~ I’m back in singapura.. the sunny island.. set in the sea

Was away in Genting with naz for a short holiday.heh.

Day 01 ::: 21st April 2006 :::

Went for CPT in the day and it sucked like crazy. Gotta retake I guess…shit x3.

What’s a holiday without kokups?? Had did my part in sms-ing naz to bring all the necessary stuff like passport, camera, coach and hotel tix… the perfect plan was to meet him at TPY station then we take to bugis, have dinner, then take a cab to golden mile.

But. He forgot to bring his ringgit out!! Urghz. Seems like my fault for not reminding him… but in actual fact, it’s not lor. Don’t be deluded. He’s got dementia. Btw, dementia is a form of insanity, learnt from an adam’s family movie we watched in the hotel. Never knew it was insanity.. thought it’s just forgetfulness.

Next up was to get off in town to get a cab back to his home to get the okane. We were in luck when we got a cab almost immediately and when we asked the cabby if he could wait for us while naz go up to get the okane, he was hesitant and said if its too long he won’t. We assured him it’s only 5 min..then he said “ok” amidst all the grumbling under his breath.

While I was in the cab waiting, I thought I had to break the silence by making some small talk (as I always feel compelled to)…and the cabby told me that he needed to use the toilet, desperately. That’s why he doesn’t really want to wait. Wahahhah. Poor uncle.

Anyway, we were off to golden mile and the pat thai there really quite no standard, considering it’s a thai hangout. At 10pm, we set off to tuas causeway.

Was happy-ing enjoy-ing my mp3 when the driver played some old andy lau and tan yonglin show set in the 1980s..the stereo was blasting (as always) .. deafening and screechy. Feeling so sure I’m not about to tahan this thing for the whole trip, I bent over to ask him soften it. Phew.

I slept like a pig as always, especially drowsy when traveling on the bus. But naz was awake like an owl.. and since not much choice coz his mp3 spoilt and he doesn’t like the songs on my mp3, he watched the lousy Cantonese show. Haha. He couldn’t sleep at all in the bus though he was tired… so sadz. Let me impart some of my sleep-anywhere skills to him……hehe.

It was 5.30am when we finally reached 1st world. Took a queue number for check in and god, there was really a lot of people.. our queue number was 152. ?!! luckily the Q moved fast and after catching breakfast at “only Mee” (their penang ramen quite nice..yummy), we checked in at 8am. Yess! We were still quite dubious about early check in coz usual case would be to wait till 12pm or 3pm for their official check in. .. yokatta ne!! …….1st thing: sleep!!!

Day 02 ::: 22nd April 2006 :::

Started off the day with Outdoor Theme park.. rides to jolt us awake. Heh. Tried almost every ride and the best has got to be “The Flying Coaster” and the “Space Shot”.

The most scary -->> (Space shot ( aka. tower drop) is still the most scary to me.. maybe it’s the motion of dropping from a great height, always the most terrifying. Anyway, I dunno why but I was so scared and screamed till I cried when taking the space shot. Not my first time somemore. Like my 5th or 6th time liao. Maybe I got the scared-mood. Naz got a shock though.. he thought I was about to hyperventilate. Wahahha.

The most relaxing-->> has got to be the ferris wheel! Breezy and nice and take the chance to rest our feet.

The most smelly try-->> Archery.. we gotta wear those small finger guards and it was bloody smelly… super..taihen. those sweaty leather smell which like has been left to ferment for 10 years. After that, we went toilet to scrub with hadnwash liquid and I had to wash it twice.. the smell went off for a while and when we go back hotel, we realized the smell was still there ..errrrrrr . wash wash wash.

The luckiest -->> Naz wanted to go casino awhile while waiting for our buffet dinner to start and we played digital roulette. He lost like 150 ringgit and when he was down to his last 50 ringgit, he promised that once he can break even, he’ll zao. He kept asking me for hunches and think I’ve got the du3 hou4 blood in me, I actually helped him to break even…. 200…! Run.!

The most satisfying -->> Dinner was good. We got this free meal voucher which can be used at certain restaurants for buffet dinners. Went for this international buffet thingy which was really not bad.

The most no hoo-ha-->> Next up was shopping time!! Was hoping that got sale or what just like the last time I went there (err..about 3-4 years ago I think).. but there wasn’t any. Sighz. So end up with a t shirt from FOS. The end.

The most “I thought no hoo-ha, there came a hoo-ha”-->> I met my ex-colleagues. Not one. But a whole group all from my department. They were in KL for a seminar and just dropped by Genting for 3hrs.. ya..ask me. What are the chances of meeting them?! Well.. I did.

The Coldest -->> Signed up for SnowWorld at 10.30pm and by that time naz was in a half concussed state already.. but at least he knew he was here for a holiday and managed to drag himself out of bed. Haha. No pity for him.

SnowWorld was nothing much except we went there to freeze our butts off in this man-made snowland. Quite small the place and we secretly took out our cam to take pics which wasn’t allowed. They wanted us to engage their photography services so they can make money… well, we still took la coz it’s one 6R pic and one 5R pic for 28 ringgit. Just pay la..since on holiday. This is the exact mindset they’re expecting… and I guess tourism is really a huge and growing industry.

Haha..naz was pretty irritated coz I keep missing the button for taking of pics when I had my gloves on and it made our photo taking very obvious with me fiddling with the camera for an extended amount of time. We called it quits when it turned out one of the photos he took for me had his glove covering the pic.

Day 03 ::: 23rd April 2006 :::

Going home day.

Supposed to wake up for the free buffet breakfast at Awana but we were too lazy to wake up early and take the slow cable ride down and up.

So. We had a quick breakfast and tried out this hot pot place which was ok only.

Not much time to do anything actually and managed to buy myself some socks coz I forgot to bring extra. Took a walk outside the hotel and did some last min photo-taking with flowers and inane stuff.

Before we know it, it was near 3pm to catch our bus back. The bus smelt like shit. The air was stale and it was dusty and there was a foul smell.. emitting from the cushion I think. Along with it were a few houseflies flying around. Sianz. Taihen sian. Naz whipped out his bottle of perfume and started spraying around our seats. But the perfume couldn’t last very long.

Reached home at 11pm due to a massive jam (what’s new?). So taihen tired and felt like MC-ing.. but didn’t. Good discipline natsuri san... I’m so proud of you.

zen zen dekimasen....

Shucks.

Gotta buy some digital Chinese dictionary (wanted to write “digital dic” in short actually but thought it sounded quite suggestive.. hence..amended!) for my tuition kid. I still think the good ole book dictionary is more user friendly. Exams nearing..where got time to learn how to use the dictionary.. so many buttons and all. Gotta waste time learning how to use the functions also. warui.
Anyway, the parents say ok then I’ll just be the purchaser. Keep forgetting to get it..urgh. alarm needed.

My tuition kid asked me to teach faster ahead of what the school teacher is teaching. I told him frankly that this is not what a tutor should do. I am here to reinforce what he had learnt and to clear whatever doubts he has, making sure he gets sufficient practice for all the topics.

I always believe in Practice makes perfect. Do more, read more, practise more and in most circumstances, memorise. Sad but true, I got through school by doing loads of memorizing..in science, chemistry, history…except for Math and PE.

He can’t even do questions from his current topics and still request me to go faster.?! Ya rite. Told him if he can answer every single question from “Living Things Reproduce” before I’ll go into “Energy”. He just nodded after my super inspiring and taihen enlightening explanation. Mm. Good boy.

Taking leave tomorrow..yay!! but still gotta wake up early for CPT!! Hope I pass lor..if not quite paiseh. Think I gotta practise speaking Mandarin from now onz. Onz. I mean in perfect mandarin.

Still feel pissed that I watched every single episode of heart flower blooms and I actually missed the last episode yesterday. Okay. Correction. I didn’t miss it. I programmed to tape it at 1.10am and went to sleep. But my usual practice would be to place a huge note in front of the tv asking ppl not to change the channel coz I’m taping from 1.10am. ya. My VCR quite stupid la.. can only tape the channel which the viewer is watching. When I woke up, the channel was changed!..ahhhh.. nani mo nai. Zen zen nani no nai…..

kawaii kodomo~

My colleague’s kid is so cute!! She will play the voicemails left by her kid for us to listen…and he really sounds so kawaii… especially the way he calls “mummy”..super nasal n cute. Okay.. running out of vocab to use. Haha.

Anyway, I saw a chicken little keychain and remembered she mentioned her kid likes chicken little. So I bought it for him..heh. what a nice person I am..ha. but I feel happy thinking of how happy he would be when he gets it. And he really liked it lo.. (duhz.) according to his mum, he was super exhilarated. Ii ne!

The same goes for buying gifts for ppl. I would have this unspeakable sense of satisfaction when I see that the person really appreciates the gift (or they’re just being polite…-_-ll ) or they find the gift taihen useful. The same goes with recommending good food to one and all… sharon san says I should be a purchaser… I want! But who wants to hire me. Need some relevant qualifications leh. Its ok la.. think I’ll just be contented being my freelance purchaser.

The week flies by so fast.. it’s another Tuesday and it’s another KB class again.
It’s scary. Christmas will soon be here and then we go around gong xi gong xi again.

Naz commented that I suffer from time-machine delusion. To me, everything seem to be taking place soon.

Even if it’s happening end of the year, I’ll think it’s very very soon coz june holidays will be here, then Hungry Ghosts’ Festival (this year I heard got 2 months of Hungry Ghosts….wooohhooooo), then mooncake time… then sep hols will be here and it will be Christmas time…..falala lala lala la~ fast right. Heh.

Hai hai hai…wakarimashita.. iji ni san shi…

~I guess it's over...can't believe that i'm the fool again~

The long weekend is over. Nan de!? Sighz. I thought I was just looking forward to it…

Well, though it went by a little tad too fast, it was quite fruitful. “fruitful” here is a pun. Pun! My god! I am so literary!! Yess..really. Fruitful as in time was meaningfully spent and also I ate quite a lot of fruits, including guava, papaya, mango, oranges... yummy. Kudamono ga dai suki ne!

Had a braised dark dinner with duck sponsored by naz.. it was quite oishii except that the sauce could be heated up to enhance the flavor.

The original plan for good Friday was to go Ubin to cycle but as everyone knows or knew or already predicted, it rained…so super heavily. Traveled like 1 hour plus to reach Ubin terminal and we immediately got on to the same bus we alighted to go back to tampines… quite duh. Walked around in tampines mall and bought a nice sundress (ima okane nai) and some guidebooks for teaching my kids (argh… sianz. Another avenue of okane outflow).

Spent the day baking oatmeal cookies instead. We were puzzled that the cookies baked by naz always turned out looking better in terms of the shape (naz wasn’t that puzzled…but I was!). Cannot be me ma…I’m from food and nutrition can…ahem. After a few rounds, we concluded that it was the tray that made the difference. Somehow when we took turns to bake the cookies in batches, he always got to use the tray that baked better cookies. Doesn’t make sense? Ya.. I wakaranai also..so.
Anyway, guys are supposed to be better chefs... in the workplace. But I would gladly agree and concede defeat if they really are better chefs at home as well. Let them cook.. its ok. I like to be known as a bad cook so that I can sit and wait to be fed..heh. Who likes to cook?! Greasy and hot.. Plus all the washing up to do after that.

Sat was as usual just with an extra irritating Samsung tv guy who turned up at my door without calling first. The pissed part was that on the form wrote big and clear “to call before appointment”. ggggrrR.
It’s the same old problem about my tv not able to change channels smoothly. Resorted to Samsung as starhub has done her fair share to change my cable box twice and remote control as well.

For the whole 1 hour he just fiddled with the cable box, making the phrase “mind your own business” totally applicable. 3 times he suggested I should get starhub to change my box to digital cable box. I kindly enlightened him with the fact that I would need to subscribe to digital cable…and I am not interested in paying extra for that!

3rd pissed: he told me he know must pay..but still insisted I asked starhub to try first..if ok, then I should change.

4th pissed: he obviously doesn’t understand mandarin… that I don’t want to pay. I told him the problem arose due to the change in tv sets.. and I think he doesn’t understand also. I told him I can call starhub down and asked him if he’s willing to bear the charges for my digital cable for the rest of his life. Okie.. I think he understood this time. Coz he kept really quiet.

Urghz

Then. He requested to try out the other cable box in my bro’s room to see if got problem. Fine. No prob. Next. He requested to switch the 2 boxes to see if it works. F..i…n..e. Futile too. After playing around (for like 1 hour.. my tuition kids were already hooraying thinking they’re not having tuition liao), he said he will get a display set to test for me the next time round. Zenzen waste my jikan!!

Lucky at night I was relieved of pissing events by shopping with zhe and Sharon san…

Rainy April

Raindrops found their way to earth early in the morning today.. should have came on a do yobi or nichi yobi instead…perfect day for sleeping.. no. not today coz I gotta drag myself out of bed to work. Urghz. Wasted!

Been drowning my sleepiness in coffee recently. Busy with chasing my hk dramas… namely: My Shifu is Huang Feihong.and “Xin1 Hua1 Fang4” (translated as heart flower bloom). Its funny how amazing languages are, so unique and with a culture of its own that makes direct translation quite impossible. You might be able to get very very close to the original meaning but the overall accent and punches of the sentence would be gone most of the time. Anyways, both dramas are ending soon.. so quite exciting now. Sacrificial of sleep is worth it I guess. But. I still must complain…….. sleepy ne!!!

Tried and tested, I’m doing free publicity for Old Town 3-1 Classic white coffee..i’m in love with it. Ayu.. you should try it since you’re a coffee lover.. super oishii. Sharon san is a happy old town consumer now! Proof! Heh. Hazelnut flavour also very nice….. yum.. but please.. only the brand Old Town is nice hor. There’re many other brands of white coffee which are ma-ma only.

I repeat (to sharon san especially): I don’t get royalties for promoting this product!!! Grrrrrgrr. Doing you a favor still say so much.

Informing people of good food is a social responsibility which I undertake with passion and honour.

and the winner is............

Apart from laughing at the contestants for Miss Singapore Universe during the question and answer section, I really gotta admire their courage. Okay, before I pay kudos to them, must laugh first.

One of the contestant called jeanette chose a question given by a polytechnic student. Her question was, “With regards to the recent sex video circulation as result of a lost mobile phone, what do you think of the moral standards of teenagers nowadays?”

I thought this was one of the easier questions.. can answer like it’s fine to be more westernized due to media influences etc…but must know what they are doing and the consequences of their actions and be able to accept full responsibility…blah blah..those standard answers.

This gal apparently got very nervous and shy about the topic that she couldn’t stop giggling while expressing her views… aiyo. The main casts of the video are not a little bit shy about taking the video lor, doshite you shy???! Her answer was that it’s fine to circulate the video on the internet and through hp. ??!?!!!!! (-_-ll) think she never read news leh…it seems that from her answer, she thought the video was voluntarily circulated by the couple… scary thought.

Anyways, thought Jade Seah was so so pretty and quick witted! Too bad she didn’t win..sighzz.

The 2nd round of qn and ans was horrendous. Coz of the stupid qn… “Why do you think local men seems less attractive than foreign men?” it’s such a duh qn. Bad qn. Quite easy to spot the bimbos from this round. Haha..

The next star answer to this qn was
“ I prefer local men. Becoz, all my previous boyfriends are locals. They’re not very tall (contestant paused, to create suspense), not very well-built (contestant paused, to create suspense )and some even a bit plump (contestant paused, to create suspense).. BUT ( contestant paused, to create suspense), the main point is (contestant paused, to create suspense) ……………….* everyone waiting in anticipation*…………… I still love them a lot!”

so anti-climax to the max. Plus super cold… her answer was followed by awkward silence on the stage, among the studio audience and as well as in the homes of those watching terebi. Great influence I would say.

Complain complain..but would I dare do it anot. Of coz not! Haha..

I’ve got stage fright ever since I was young… everything that can go wrong, will go wrong. Will never forget how I read out my partner’s part of the speech instead of my own. I even highlighted in neon yellow, y part of the speech and practiced it umpteen times. Not only did I malu myself, the worst part was that I caused severe shock to my partner who couldn’t find his line coz I took his.

So loads of courage needed to be on stage and you need a strong jaw too, to hold that darlie smile.

People (aka me) really change for no reason

People change.

A few years ago, if you come up to me to tell me “eh, xxx was like that like that. Now he is like that like that… people really do change hor?”
My answer would probably be “Maybe.. but confirm must be influenced by zzz or by ppp event!”
I’ll attribute the change to something, somewhere or somebody. People change due to external influences.

Ima, kyo…. I’m just rethinking my point of view. . Maybe.. people change coz they just simply changed, or feel like changing. May not be under others’ influence…errr… sounds very abstract… think I’m becoming more and more like Zhang Yi Mou…….

Bought breakfast today and was thinking that I didn’t use to like eating breakfast. No appetite in the morning la.. love brunches. Actually I’ve been having breakfast more often nowadays.. planning what to eat for breakfast while in the train to work has become a daily routine. Quite exciting sometimes. it’s good so that I don’t mega eat for lunch if not I’ll feel dam nemui.

Ya..so I’ve changed! No one influenced me… I changed coz I simply changed.. quite a poor example to illustrate my zhang yi mou’s thoughts..but so far can’t think of anything else..

So that sparked off these random thoughts…

what will you do.

Saw this old woman near my office yesterday when I was walking to the mrt station after work. She stopped me and asked me for $1 to take bus home coz she lost her wallet. I got a shock and started thinking to myself whether I got $1 coin. Think I got. So I looked at her with a blur face and walked away. Ya la.. even I got $1 I also won’t give her lor. It’s not the money but being a cynic, I bet she must be earning lots of $1 by taking advantage of the empathy shown by passer-bys. Con-woman!

The day before at J8, I saw this old woman dressed shabbily selling tissue paper and I almost wanted to buy from her not to do charity but coz I needed tissue anyway. But in the end I didn’t coz I changed my mind (ha.. still a cynic at heart.). while I was waiting for my dad at the taxi stand, I saw a cab coming in and the woman who flagged it was the tissue woman! So she can’t be that poor la..if she can afford a cab ride. I don’t even like to spend $ on cab unless really necessary lor.

Tried to find excuses for her, like.. oh..maybe she’s rich but she’s old and sells tissue just to pass time.. or oh… she’s old already so finds it difficult to take public transport…oh, maybe she’s rushing off somewhere to sell tissue… but tissue still ok la.. at least something that’s usable. I’ll just treat myself as a consumer buying from an auntie instead of a shop. But if she’s just plain asking for $$ by making up some excuses then quite difficult to “con” my $.

April fOoL's day..~

Not much music and sound from me coz I was away at the chalet with ahmad, maria, babu and their tian mi mi-s (if applicable).

It was at aloha loyang, a chalet meant for civil servants’ booking only. Huge. With 4 bedrooms, each with attached toilet and bathroom! Coolz. Think that’s important coz I dun really like to share a small bathroom with many many people. Especially those small, squeezy, wet toilets with the floor engulfed with hair…eeeks.

I got this jie2 pi4 thingy about stepping on wet, foreign floors (foreign: defined as any other floors other than the floor in my house). Subconsciously I’ll tiptoe all the way till I reach dry, clean ground. That’s why I don’t think I’ll adapt well to hostel life or be able to stay in those budget hostels when traveling. But if I have the option of wearing my slippers everywhere then that’s a different story. Heh.

Sorry..digressed too much. Yess.! The toilets are clean except with an occasional xiaoqiang passing by.

Such a waste coz I couldn’t play at wild wild wet due to personal reasons (ahem) and couldn’t go escape also coz of the rain. Urghz. So basically, it was lots of pigging out and couch potato-ing with the fun of exchanging thought-provoking, debatable conversations in between the commercial breaks. Haha. Played the good ole UNO game and UNO stacko as well.

Here I must mention, we played UNO stacko for a record breaking time of 1 hour 15 min!! The tower looked so precarious you wouldn’t believe it…till finally, babu ended the game in honour and with grace. We all did super well lo! Maria..see la.. you missed all the fun…who ask u go home so early. Heh.

Forgot to mention that we had curry fish head for dinner at changi village..yummy.. with moments in in the dark due to a short circuit in the KPT (aka.kopitiam). Dessert was DIY MUG root beer with vanilla ice-cream..

1 am was when we retired for the day. Tsukaremashita ne!!

After a brunch at Tampines mall, naz wanted to go home but I suggested to watch a movie. Shucks.! Shouldn’t have suggested… naz wanted to watch Ice Age 2 which I violently objected and we even put up a little drama which looks like the scene of a kidnap, near the ticketing counter with him dragging one of my arm and me struggling to go the other direction, away from the counter. The point is : I don’t want to watch Ice Age 2!!

Anyway, the kidnap was successful in the end (sighz…urghzzzz!) and I found myself sitting in front of the screen watching a mammoth, tiger (or what seemed like a tiger) and a weird looking raccoon (or what seemed like a raccoon) making jokes which aren’t at all haha-funny. ..the weird thing is that naz LOVED it. ..not like leh. LOVE leh.

the only good thing about the movie i guess was that i managed to catch up on some lost sleep due to the chalet... i slept like 1 hour plus straight. applause!!!
