GoNg HeI FaTT chOy!!

It’s Chinese new year’s eve today.. but I’m not too happy..in a lousy mood. Think I’ll be depending on the chilli crabs later to make me feel better.yum! glutton is my middle name.

Spent some time hanging out with my parents last night.
Went to our favourite market as usual coz I’ve got relatives selling you tiao and coffee there. Quite happenings but not as happening as last year.

Before I can get to finish my you tiao, my mum chased me off to buy this “Ah tok” minced pork noodles. We used to eat it so often when I was still schooling and went to the market every Sunday with my mum. It was a weekly ritual. Now leh.. I easily spend like $25 on a suki buffet or normal would be $10 on a meal. Come to think of it, it’s quite ex compared to the $1.80 ah tok’s noodles. Hah…the main point is, at 12midnight, the queue was super long. Ah tok took my order and she had her kids who were helping her out at the small stall. My mum wanted to offer the noodles to me but I dun wan. Told her if she had seen how ah tok prepared the noodles u wont feel like eating liaoz.

Ichi- She tore a small bunch of noodles using her hand (ok..thats considered pretty normal), threw it in hot water, then she rinsed the noodles in cold water. The cold water was contained in a bucket which looks like the red huge buckets we use at home for mopping the floor, except it looked way older and dirtier.

Ni- Oops, a few strands of noodles spilled out of the pail. So she used her fingers to flick it back into the cold water. Sianz.

San- I spotted a drop of perspiration hanging precariously at the ends of ah tok’s eyebrows. Then it disappeared. I dun wan to know where it went.

Yon- The cooked noodles were then passed to her son and he found out there were no more minced meat liao. At the same time, an auntie said “how much ah?” he said, “ $9”. He took the money, dropped it into the drawer and pushed all the other notes aside. Using the same hand, took out the minced meat and put it into the bowl. Ok. Quick quick. I want my noodles.

Go- on the table just outside their stall, ah tok’s 2 young daughters were having some fun playing with the dried seaweed. Their task, I believe, was to cut huge piece of seaweed into small square pieces. Some seaweed, or rather, most of the seaweed dropped onto the table during the process and they picked it up and put it back in.

Roku- my mum found the noodles super tasty, which I feel really happy for her lor. While I was telling her, she kept asking me to tell her after she finished her noodles. Moral of the story: Dirty food taste the best!

Mum screaming at me to help her prepare for the dinner later. Every CNY is so typical. She starts to get all hyped up and picky over the cleanliness of the house. Keep asking me to mop the floor la, iron the clothes la, fold the clothes la, pack the shoes la. Arrange the sweets la – of which I find the most meaningful during CNY.

GONG HEI FATT CHOY!
